Colton’s Cause aims to improve the quality of life for families of special needs children and young adults by providing financial support for necessary nursing care, mobility equipment, modifications to the home for handicapped accessibility, and other special needs.

Colton’s Cause Mission

Colton John Armengol was born on March 16, 2000, in St. Louis, Missouri. Within just a few months of his joyous birth, his parents knew he was not developing as expected, and they began looking for answers and treatment. Colton was seen by world renown pediatric neurologists who, in the early years, could not provide an exact diagnosis for Colton’s rare neurological disorder. They could only treat his conditions, which included epilepsy, chorea movements, acid reflux, visual impairment, and non-verbalism. It wasn’t until the age of 12 that, thanks to the Human Genome Project, Colton received a diagnosis of having the rare GABRB2-associated neurodevelopment disorder.

Though he was stricken with a rare and incurable disease with a five-year life expectancy, Colton shattered the odds and lived a significantly longer, full life. He visited Disney World, graduated from high school, and in the end, left a meaningful legacy, first by way of organ donation and then through Colton’s Cause. Thanks to the love, devotion, and extraordinary care provided by his family, nurses, doctors, and other caregivers, Colton was able to touch the lives of those around him for 21 years.

Colton’s Story

Throughout the years, Colton’s family experienced firsthand the immense financial burden that can go along with caring for children and young adults with special needs.

Colton’s Cause aims to help with this financial burden and improve the quality of life for families of children and young adults with special needs. We provide financial support for nursing care, mobility equipment, home accessibility modifications, and similar needs.

Since its inception, Colton’s Cause has donated money to cover repairs on Veronica’s vandalized van, gave funds to cover a year of therapy for Sarah, who had aged out of insurance coverage, and provided a hospital bed for a growing boy, Charlie. These are just a few of the needs Colton’s Cause has been able to assist with. With continued support and donations, we hope to help relieve many more special needs families of some of the financial stress that we know all too well..
